Still Dark

Mary went to the tomb
while it was still dark.
Jesus had already gotten up,
already defeated our greatest enemy,
already erased the very reason
for her sadness,
and – still – she wept.
Mary wept in the face of angels
and did not recognize the man
she came in search of,
because Mary was looking for a body
without life,
and Jesus was a body that had won Full Life.
I have come into the Garden alone
in the darkness I am so sure will never leave
and the empty tomb still means
so little to me.
I am Mary, present,
and waiting,
because she does not understand
what He has done.
